How to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo From Home
May 4, 2020Cinco de Mayo is typically a time for festive fun, full of tacos and tequilas and lots of celebrating. However, the last few months have been hard on everyone, and celebrating may be the last thing on most people’s minds. But, the occasion only comes around once a year, so why not still pay tribute in a low-key way, all without leaving your 1213 Walnut apartment?
Food is a staple of any Cinco de Mayo outing—and it can still be the primary focus this year, as many local Mexican eateries are offering take-out and delivery. El Azteca Uno, a half-mile from your 1213 Walnut apartment, is open for takeout and curbside service. The longtime Old City restaurant is a staple in the Mexican cuisine scene, offering all of your favorite dishes—and it’s known for its generous portions and affordable prices. So you can have a full Cinco de Mayo feast, with plenty left in your wallet, and plenty of leftovers for the week!
Start your meal off with the restaurant’s famous homemade Mexican chicken soup and sample the full offering of apps, with several different types of queso and chips, guac and the house specialty spinach and cheese dip. On the entrée side, you can try nachos piled high with everything from ground beef to refried beans to chicken, or quesadillas that come in a handful of varieties, including vegetarian. Or opt for jumbo burritos, enchiladas, fajitas and platters featuring chicken, beef and seafood brimming with fresh veggies, tons of spices and homemade sauces. And if you find it hard to pick from all of those delicious options, go for the combo meals to try a little bit of everything! You can even round out your holiday meal with a traditional Mexican dessert like churros and sopapillas.
Cinco de Mayo may feel a bit different this year, but it’s still a time to celebrate culture, family and, of course, food!
