Merkaz is an Israeli pita sandwich shop and cafe located in Philadelphia's Midtown Village neighborhood. The Hebrew word for "center", Merkaz is helmed by Chef Henry Morgan, the longtime chef of beloved hummus stall Dizengoff. Open from 8am - 7pm every day, Merkaz serves breakfast and coffee in the morning and warm, made-to-order pita sandwiches and signature hummus and salatim (cooked vegetable salads) from 11am until close. In the evenings, Merkaz offers prepared meals to-go. And to quench your thirst, guests can enjoy a variety of gazoz, the freshly-flavored Israeli soft drink making its Philadelphia debut at Merkaz. Co-owned by acclaimed restaurateurs Steve Cook and Chef Mike Solomonov of CookNSolo, Merkaz is a neighborhood restaurant showcasing the best of Israeli street food.
